During week 1, we have a guest speaker and also writting down our topic in mindmap. In week 2, we have to create presentation slides and present to the whole class about our topic and also how we have improved from our previous research compendium. We take turns to present and also receive feedbacks from andreas so that we can move forward from our topic.
The guest speaker is Matthew, our graduated senior in 2022. He explains about his FYP project, how he develop his ideas from introduction, summary of readings, research objective, approach and methods.
Some interesting questions:
• How difficult to find the title?
He mentioned that every week, he came back to the lecturer with different title. The topic is ever changing and also organic progress.
• How written/research come together?
They only make sense together until i tried it out practically.Everything is theoretical until it became practical.
He also emphasize the importance of drawing minmap to link everything together.
How you went about writting it? Introduction grow with each readings. Intro is about explaining what is effective readings. For example: Emotions > how to measure emotions etc. Very brief about each things to show what you are looking for.
What is it about and go deeper with the readings. For example: Facial expression - these emotions/feelings. Cite & quote Light version of literature reviews.
Link up all the summary readings. What you want to get out of the research. For example: How to use open source research and link them together.
Some examples will be, Interview - someone else experience, Case study - back up with exisitng, Critical journal- use your own work to reflect over time such as prototyping/reflective journal.
After the talk, we have to draw mind map for our topic and lay it out on the table. We have to look at each other topic and paste the stickers on areas that we find it interesting! It is a fun exercise to know how my peers feel about which part of my topic is interesting and where I can further focus on.
Before the session, I talked to Andreas about how my compendium research include 3 focus, “Nature of design” , “Interact with Design” and “Ownership had changed” and I’m not sure which one to focus on. After this exercise, I realise most of my peers find “Nature of design” interesting especially “Blending traditional & digital art together” has the most stickers as you can see in the photo.
This section will take about my presentation and where I will focus on.
My topic is Paper to Pixel: How the art industry has shifted from traditional to digital art. It is further developed from my research compendium. The aim of the project looks at how the art industry have shifted from traditional to digital art.

In my research, I have learned more about how the art industry had shifted from traditional to digital art. The difference between them and also the impacts of NFTs in design, interactions and ownership.
I chose this topic because I’m interested in technological advances and the future possibilities that NFTs could bring to the digital world and how it could change design. Having some experience designing NFTs, this is atopic highly relevant to me. Given that NFT design is becoming increasingly prevalent, I feel that it shouldn’t be avoided. As designers we can be more open minded and explore new ways of conveying design.
Continue to research into “Blending of traditional and digital art”. Try to find out the focus for this direction. NFTs in artform is good but branding/advertising not as good to dive in. Think of going into practical work & research.
During the presentation, I found some of my classmates topic are really interesting

Using metaverse for fitbits. We need to exercise for our mental well being. This is a Interactive installation by amy jorgensen. Two interesting book that she will also look into book such as “Designing for behaviour change” by amy bucher and also “changing people behaviour through Design for the mind” by victor.
In this 3 weeks, I understand more about how to approach my topic. I feel that the guest speaker really help alot in terms of understanding what is required for the RPO especially after hearing from his experiences. Mindmapping exercise also taught me the importance of it. I like the part where we can put stickers on areas that we feel interested or beneficial for the other party. I think 3rd party oberservation help me to see which area of my research is more important. During presentation, I also have a clearer direction on how to move forward with my project. Therefore, I will look into how to blend traditional and digital art together via NFTs. I will also find more books related to my topic.
