Week 16: Collectiverse

During week 16, I use spatial to make a protoype that explains my idea and also proposed 3 development for sem 2. Collectiverse is a metaverse marketplace that allows collectors to buy, sell and trade physical and digital collectibles through the use of NFTs and digital scanning. Here's a video for the full demo and user testing.

First part of the room

This space is dedicated to displaying the 32 figurines I have digitally scanned with Qlone. The file was exported as .GLB to be supported by Spatial. This space is designed to have "magical" vibes so that I can display all the different collectibles designs. Figurines are displayed on the pedestal so that the user can view them. User can go closer to see the collectibles from different angles because they are in 3D form.

Second part of the room

This space is dedicated to displaying artwork. This space has a minimalistic look and is gallery-like, the design is a mix of my previous experiments. This space is meant for people to view and purchase items easily. In this space, it may be simpler while in the other space it will be more interactive.

Third part of the room

The space has been designed to resemble a cinema. In the video, you'll see trailers for each collectible so you can learn more about it. In addition to viewing the objects, watching trailers will help buyers understand what they are buying and where it comes from. Content will be determined by the seller based on what they want to promote. The video can serve as an advertisement or anything else. There is a seating area where users can watch the show.

Outdoor area

This is an outdoor area where people can walk around. There is a running figurine outside because it will be fun to discover surprises or see the figurine walk around. It is also possible to walk up to the collectibles and view them.

Proposed 3 development

After conducting three experiments, I was satisfied with the outcomes. I have been challenging myself to learn new software that I have never used before with Qlone, 3D scanning app, Lidar technology, Blender, Spatial, Sketch up and Enscape. The experience was helpful for me in determining what my final year project should look like. With the experience I gained in semester 1, I believe I will be able to enhance my digital space more in semester 2.

2. User interface for buy/sell/trade in the Metaverse

Create a shopping UI for people to transact in the Metaverse. I want to find out more ways for people to transact easily in this space in sem 2. It explained how buyer can buy, sell and trade in the metaverse. For example, when the character is near to the object, he will see a information panel to know the cost and also purchase it. As well as trading, user can request to trade with other users.

3. Creating a market place in a Metaverse

Create an abstract marketplace

Creating characters that can fly with or without vehicles or equipment. Default characters to choose from, not too customisable because the purpose is to go in and purchase items.

Floor map

By creating mindmap, I can understand better and visualise how I want my marketplace to look like. First, I started by looking into theme such as carnival because it relate the most to fun and abstract. I want a big gashapon for people to get voucher. A cinema house inside the circus tent. Giftshop for people to shop for collectibles. Cafeteria for people to chill and hang out. The zoo will include collectibles that I have a animated to run about. For people to enjoy the experience.

Reflection

Digitalising physical collectibles:
The digitalisation of physical collectibles has been a great success, especially after scanning 32 objects. It gets easier and better to scan over time when you use tripods, turntables, and good lighting.

Enhancing the digitised scans:
Enhancing digitised scans is an interesting experiment, but I believe that if the first scan is good enough, this step may not be necessary. By enhancing digitized scans, you can also change the object's actual appearance. Therefore, I will not proceed with this project since it does not align with my goal of creating a representation of a physical object as closely as possible.

Creating a marketplace in a Metaverse:
After creating a digital space with spatial, I realize how much more I can do with it. As my idea expanded and grew, now I can do even more things with it. I originally began with a square space, but I was able to expand it and expand it further afterward. If I want to further customize this, I will need to use a game engine such as Unity. I've done a few experiments to see if it's possible. I would prefer to recreate a new digital space using Unity in semester 2 rather than spatial, since spatial could still be limited. Additionally, I am able to better understand the digital space by using the Oculus to experience. I intend to use VR headset for my next semester.
